April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!
The Office of Victims Assistance is making April 22nd Winthrop University's Denim Day!
What is Denim Day? This is a campaign in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It began after the ruling by the Italian Supreme Court when a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her removing her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidary with the victim.
We would love for all of you to participate! Wear those jeans with a purpose! As we protest against sexual violence together.
