This standing committee of the Academic Council is responsible for reviewing all courses proposed for meeting one of the core skill areas within the general education program, for reviewing modifications to courses designated as meeting one of the core skill areas within the general education program, and for recommending changes in general education requirements and a means for implementing those changes. In addition, the committee shall review all courses that have been previously designated as meeting one of the core skill areas within the General Education program to ensure that these courses continue to meet the criteria for inclusion.
Membership shall consist of eleven members: three members from the faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences, one member from the faculties of each of the other degree-granting colleges and of the Library, a Chair appointed by the Chair of the Academic Council from among the membership of the Academic Council, the Dean of University College, the Director of Freshman Writing, and the Registrar or his or her designee. The Chair of the committee, the Dean of University College, the Director of Freshman Writing, and the Registrar or his or her designee shall be nonvoting members of the committee.
